It seems like only yesterday that actress Christina Ricci collectively wowed audiences when she portrayed the precociously adorable daughter to on-screen mother Cher in the film “Mermaids.” Since taking on that role as a child, Ricci has gone on to garner accolades in films like “Sleepy Hollow,” “The Ice Storm,” “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” “Monster,” and nearly 100 other films. Next, she tackles the many twists and turns in “The Matrix Resurrections” as a character not yet named, but pivotal and compelling to the entire Matrix universe.
Ricci has taken on such a wide variety of roles; she was literally destined to not be typecast. Perhaps that was engrained in naturally from the time she was a child actress. Ricci told Indiewire.com, “I’m a natural contrarian. So anytime someone tries to tell me what I am, I immediately change and I’m something else,” she said. “I can’t help it… I never give people that. Sometimes it’s terrible and I should really just allow people to view me the way they want to, but I have a real desire and drive to define myself and to not be defined by others.”
