In her latest film, “Chevalier,” Driver has helped resurrect the exquisite work and the visibility of the first recognized Black composer of classical music, Chevalier de Saint Georges. Driver portrays the supporting role of opera singer La Guimard, who is uptight and bitter, despite her talent. “Chevalier” debuted in late 2022 at the Toronto International Film Festival to solid reviews.
It’s hard to believe that it has been over 20 years since Driver drew wide acclaim in “Circle of Friends,” and soon after garnered an Oscar nomination for her role in “Good Will Hunting.” During the pandemic, she wondered what she should do with her time and what she might do next. She took the time to reflect on her life and write a memoir, “Managing Expectations,” covering her experiences in the acting industry, her sometimes unconventional relationship expectations, and even confronting some past demons.
"Having been metabolized and synthesized by other people my entire adult life, there's a point at which the agency of telling your own story becomes not important, but sort of an interesting exploration," Driver said in an interview with NPR's “All Things Considered.”
